A Brief History of Our Lady of the Rosary, Blackfen
Our Lady of the Rosary in Blackfen has been a cornerstone of the local Catholic community since it was built in 1936–1937. The church was established on land adjacent to the former Heaslip’s farmhouse to serve the growing Irish population in the area.
Originally, it functioned as a Chapel-of-Ease within the parish of St. Stephen’s, Welling. The building was designed by E. J. Walters, and in the 1960s, aisles and a connecting corridor were added to accommodate the expanding congregation.
Constructed in brick, the church features a tall, unaisled nave and a distinctive steel roof structure, making it both a functional space for worship and a lasting landmark in Blackfen. Read more
